Online Law School Accredidation
Accreditation of law schools is generally done by the American Bar Association (ABA). This is the most important accredidation for law schools
because it is what most states require for admission to practice law (get a law license). Accreditation information is available for a number of
schools.
However, a law school may be accredited by other accrediting agencies. Online law schools often post that they are accredited, but you should
look for ABA accreditation if you want to practice law.
Online Law Schools and ABA Accreditation
Currently, no online law schools are accredited by the ABA. This means if you graduate from an online law school, you cannot practice law in
most states. A few states, including California, are the exception.
If you have no interest in practicing law, then the ABA accreditation of a law school is only important for prestige purposes.
Thus, online law schools may be a viable option for some students, even if the online law schools are not accredited by the ABA.
